VOICE Overview: V.O.I.C.E. Northern Virginia Clergy and lay leaders have been working with the Industrial Areas
Foundation (IAF) over the last three years to create a broad-based, non-partisan, multi-racial, multi-faith, citizens'
power organization, rooted in local congregations and other voluntary associations to make change on social justice
issues (affordable housing, immigration, child care, etc.) affecting the lives of low-and middle income residents in 4
Northern Virginia jurisdictions: Prince William, Fairfax, Arlington, and Alexandria.
IAF has several organizations in the Washington/Baltimore Metro. Area: Washington Interfaith Network (DC), Action In
Montgomery (MD), Baltimoreans United In Leadership Development, People Acting Together in Howard (MD). These
organizations passed the first living wage law in the United States (Baltimore), won a $25 million dedicated annual
fund for affordable housing in Montgomery County, MD, and secured $1 billion for neighborhood investment in Washington,
DC. These organizations have also trained thousands of leaders for public action at the local, state, and national
level.
Founded in the 1940's by Saul Alinsky, IAF is the country's oldest and largest organizing network. Today, IAF has
affiliates in sixty cities/counties in the US, England, Canada, and Germany. For more information on the IAF, visit

Christian Yoga at Saint Francis
Christian yoga takes the best elements of a gentle and restorative form of Hatha yoga, and joins them with a Christ-centered focus and community. We use prayer, scripture, and music to support our Catholic faith during our practice, creating a sacred space of community, spirituality, and health.
The six week series will be held on Tuesday evenings from 5:30pm to 7:00pm or 7:15pm to 8:45pm, beginning September 23 and concluding October 28, 2008. If you are at times unable to come to the class you are registered for, but can make the earlier/later class, you are welcome to utilize that option. Due to room capacity, class size will be limited to the first 18 participants who register per class time, and are open to both men and women; minimum age of 15 years old. The cost is 60.00 for the eight week class. A small number of special need scholarships are available and will be handled with the strictest of confidence.
What to Bring:
• A mat or towel to practice on
• Additional bath/beach towel (for assistance during practice)
• One hand towel (for assistance during practice)
• Water bottle
• Wear comfortable clothing such as a tee shirt and shorts
Please arrive five or ten minutes early, enter the classroom, and rest quietly on your mat until class begins. Please keep conversations to a minimum when you arrive and leave, respecting fellow students as they prepare for/enjoy the results of class. Remember to turn off cell phones/pagers before entering the room. We want to create a space of healing, quiet, and relaxation as well as one of friendship.
